Meet Gelene

Gelene Strecker-Sayer began her career teaching History & Culture for the Chicago Public Schools nearly 20 years ago. She has had the pleasure of working with students from all over the world. Gelene has a BA in History & Language and a BS in Secondary Education. In addition to receiving an MA in Linguistics & Equity in Education, she also achieved National Board Certification in English Language Development.

Gelene is a Fulbright Scholar and former University of Chicago Fellow. She has been published in TESOL’s on-line SLW Newsletter for second language writing, Phi Kappa Phi’s, National Forum magazine & MIDTESOL’s Matters. She has presented at regional, state and national levels on topics such as the language and learning issues of international adoptees, pull-out ELL programs, standards-based curriculum writing, as well as innovative spelling and grammar techniques.

Currently she teaches ESL to K-12 students for a large public school district in St. Louis, Missouri, where she lives with her husband and 2 children.
